Climbers’ Stories

Matt – United Kingdom

Since working with Chiara, I have a more positive relationship with food and am not avoiding foods that I really enjoy. I have more energy when it comes to training, meaning I can train harder and longer and I have seen a distinct physical change. I’ve increased max hangs and significant progress toward a one armed pull up.

Chiara kept in touch regularly, making sure I was on track and adjusting my goals, and I felt like I could message her any time with queries. She was thoughtful and always looking for a solution to any problem I may have with my training and the nutrition to support it.

Since coaching, I’m most looking forward to getting back to climbing and testing out the new strength I’ve built on the wall and continuing to grow my nutrition knowledge. Before the lockdown I had my eyes set on an indoor V8, but in the next year I want to challenge myself further and try to get an outdoor V8 and perhaps an indoor V9.

Overall, working with Chiara was excellent over these past few months, and I feel that I have made significant progress. I couldn’t recommend working with Chiara enough to other climbers.

I chose nutrition coaching because I wanted to take the next step in my climbing training. Since working with Chiara, I eat food that better fuels me for climbing and understand what is best to eat before, during, and after training.

My favorite part of nutrition coaching was that talking to Chiara was like talking to a friend. There were no wrong answers and no bad questions and no judgement. She made everything easy – nothing was out of my reach. The goals were reasonable and she was accessible for any questions I had.

Since coaching, I am looking forward to getting back on the wall, fully fueled for training, with high energy and a better relationship with food. My main climbing goal for this next year is to tick off as many outdoor 12s as possible!

Before I worked with Chiara, I felt frustrated with previous attempts at eating right and lost at what to try next. Restrictive dieting held me back and caused more damage than it helped.

I chose nutrition coaching because mindful eating was foreign to me. I had only had experience with highly restrictive diets, and thinking that there was a way to approach eating as a useful fueling tool, rather than just a chore, was intriguing.

Food relationship was a very sensitive subject for me but I felt very “not judged” when we did these sessions. That was the one of the biggest things for me—not being made to feel like I had really been screwing up since most diets and eating plans basically are built on “you’ve been doing it wrong, do this!”

Since working together, I’m climbing at the same level as before quarantine and feel like I didn’t slip in my strength as much as I thought I would have. I’m feeling better about what I eat and balancing out my intake and my weight has been the most consistent it’s ever been.

Before coaching I never really thought about eating before climbing, other than just not wanting to feel too stuffed prior to working out. I’m excited to see how I can use my pre, mid, and post workout eating to maximize my sessions.

In a nutshell, Chiara helps you use food as a tool towards meeting your goals rather than it being a hindrance. Literally changed my life 🙂

Before I worked with Chiara I felt trapped by an unhealthy and obsessive relationship with food. I was held back by expectations for what and how I “should” eat without any real tools or information to guide healthy eating. I chose nutrition coaching because I wanted to be free of my constant worrying about food and learn how best to fuel my climbing.

Due to a history of disordered eating, I was always afraid of learning more about nutrition because I thought it would just fuel the fires of obsession. What I love about Chiara is that she understands what it’s like to lose control over your relationship with food, so she focuses on building nutrition knowledge on the foundation of a healthy, positive relationship with food.

I have a much more positive relationship with food now! I’m able to make informed choices, as well as listen to and respect the cues my body sends me. I’m looking forward to getting back out on the rock armed with new confidence and knowledge to fuel and climb my best 🙂

My favorite part was seeing the progress! My thoughts about food went from unproductive, invasive, and constant to healthy, informed, and only around when it was relevant. I gained trust in my body that freed me from “shoulds” and now allows me to honor feelings of hunger and fullness and really enjoy the food I eat.

Chiara is so genuinely passionate about helping people fuel; she listens, empathizes, and meets the people she works with where they are so there can be a real, lasting impact. I really can’t thank her enough for what she’s done for me!
